Attention Travelers: Use These Tips for Your Next Business Trip

Going on any business trips? Many people going on business travel have to deal with jet lag, productivity, and stress. Use this tips to streamline your productivity, avoid jet lag, reduce stress, and make your travel easier.

1. Schedule Your Flights Based on Arrival Times

There are many different strategiese for avoiding jet lag. Some suggest arriving at night so you can get some sleep, but that doesn’t always work. Try to plan a flight that takes off in the morning, and lands in the afternoon. That way, you’ll have some time to adjust your circadian rhythm, and get used to the current time zone. Don’t go to bed until the local time goes to bed.

2. Start Adjusting to Your Future Time Zone

If you know you’ll be going to a different time zone in a few days, start adjusting. Think about the time zone you will be in, and wake up and go to sleep at the right times according to that time zone. You should gradually get closer to the right bedtime and wake up time, so that you won’t feel extremely tired when you start your adjustments.

3. Avoid Red-Eye Flights, Unless the Benefits Outweigh the Costs

Flying from west to east at night can be exhausting. It interrupts your sleep habits, and you’ll be going to a different time zone anyway. Red-eye flights can magnify jet lag, so try to avoid them. Unless you are in business class and have a comfortable bed, you will find it hard to sleep, and that will affect your habits, force you to sleep at your destination, and waste time.

4. Stay Hydrated and Eat Snacks

Fruits, nuts, vegetables, and carbs are great for traveling. They keep you nourished and energized, but they don’t affect you too much. Be sure that you drink water throughout your flight, and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Keeping your body healthy is a good way to avoid jet lag.

5. Practice Some Adjustment Tricks

There are a few trips to help you adjust. One would be to take a hot shower in the morning, and then a cold one at night, so that your body can regulate its sleep/wake cycles. Another trick would be to expose yourself to light at the right times. Your body may think it is the middle of the night when it is really midday where you currently are. By exposing your body to light, you will adjust better to your time zone.

6. Stay Active

Don’t abandon your exercise habits, as that will never help. Try to find hotels with gyms or pools. Get a membership to a gym chain. Decide on what time you want to exercise. Maybe it is the morning, but you may feel stressed to finish before your work starts. By exercising in the evening, you won’t feel rushed, and you can explore more. Also, try to walk around while waiting for your plane. You could even rent a bike when you arrive at your destination.

 7. Network

By networking with other people on the plane, you can potentially make your time well worth it. If you make friends and contacts, you can pass long hours on the plane, and you may be able to land deals with a high ROI.

8. Stay Productive on the Plane

Working on the plane is a great way to stay productive on a daytime flight. Before takeoff and reaching crusing altitude, you should stay active on your phone. Once you can pull out your laptop, do so. Work on your projects, stay in touch with your team on Skype, or write down your ideas and goals. Before you know it, you will have accomplished much before you reach your destination.

9. Take Some Time Off

Travel is exhilirating, but also exhausting. When on a business trip, your time is important. By taking breaks and relaxing, you can refresh yourself and keep up with your health. By investing some in yourself, you will be investing more in your work.
