Many students struggle with managing time. With these tips, you can be more productive and have a schoolwork schedule that works for you.
Tip 1: Figure Out What Time of Day You’re Most Productive
Know when you are most productive. That is crucial to making a useful schoolwork schedule that actually works. When are you least distracted? When are you most productive? For many people, like me, it’s early in the morning. But, maybe you work best at noon or later.
If you don’t know when you are most productive, ask your family and friends. Once you have found the best, most productive time for yourself, you’ll want to plan important tasks and homework around that time.
Tip 2: Know How Long Events and Tasks Take
Of course, when you are planning your schoolwork schedule, time tables are necessary. In order to have a working time table, you’ll need to know how long your homework and tasks take to finish. From your prior experience in completing tasks, you can make a good estimate of how long future ones will take. If you haven’t done a certain task before, then overestimating how long it will take will allow you to finish it in your given time table.
Once you have estimates of how long tasks will take, you can now arrange them in an order. Prioritizing tasks is the best way to arrange them. You’ll want to do the most urgent tasks first, leaving the least urgent ones for last. If your tasks are of the same priority, you can arrange them in a few ways.
The first would be from longest to shortest. The longest tasks should be completed first, so you can get the shorter tasks done later. If you don’t like that, you can do it from shortest to longest. That way, you’ll complete a higher number of tasks in a shorter amount of time, before finishing the hardest tasks last.
Tip 3: Make a Calendar
For many people, like me, their calendar is their schoolwork schedule. Using a calendar as a schoolwork schedule keeps everything in the same place. So, what will you do for your calendar? What will you use? I personally use Google Calendar.
Since I use Google, my invitations will automatically be put on my calendar and I’ll be notified of events and tasks. In Google Calendar, you can create many different calendars, and you can add other people’s calendars also. With your account, you can access your calendar on more than one device. It’s definitely a great setup; you should try it.
Maybe you like the idea of customized calendars. Creating a calendar yourself might not be such a bad idea. You can use a notebook and make a calendar just the way you want it. Or, you can check out some of these calendars:
Tip 4: Make a To Do List
Making a to do list is also a great way to keep track of your tasks. If you have any tasks that are too small for your schoolwork schedule, just put them on your to do list. To make one, you can read our article on making to do lists. Once you have created a to do list that you love, you can have times to do what you have on your to do list.
On your calendar you can find a good time to work on your to do list. If there are any tasks that are take up too much time, you might want to move them from your to do list and onto your schoolwork schedule.
Tip 5: Reward Yourself for Completing Your Schedule
At the end of the day, check you progress. Did you finish all of your tasks and homework? If so, great! If not, what do you think were your weak points? Were you estimated times accurate? Did you find the actual time where you are most productive? You may want to modify your schoolwork schedule and consider timing.
When you finish your tasks, you can reward yourself on a daily basis. Maybe this means playing a board game, eating a dessert, or doing something else fun.
