Is winter here already? Are you having trouble decorating for winter? Here are five easy tips that will help you have the perfect winter decorations!

Tip 1: Decorate in Warm Colors

Decorate in colors such as red and orange or brown, and incorporate a little bit of green. These colors look different than the traditional colors of blue and white that are associated with the bleak cold of winter. A great way to decorate with these colors outdoors is a Christmas wreath. It can be made of green pine needles, have some snowy pine cones, some red berries, and a red bow.

Tip 2: Decorate with Red Bows

You can wrap red ribbon bows around anything – street lamps, your mail box, your furniture, etc. They are easy to make, and add a nice touch of red to various places. They can also turn something that is normally just a necessity, such as a door handle, into something festive and fun. This is an easy job for kids to do to get involved in decorating, too. If you don’t like too much red, you can wrap candy cane ribbon around various things, as well.

Tip 3: Make things Fuzzy

During winter time, people love fuzzy rugs, sweaters, blankets, and the like. If you have anything that is fuzzy, put it out on display. Be careful with the color of a fuzzy rug. Make sure it matches the surrounding furniture, yet still stands out as a winter color. White and/or red are great colors that match many things during winter time. Green matches fewer colors, but it can still look great.

Also feel free to have fuzzy blankets and sweaters strewn over furniture. This adds an aura of coziness to the room, and makes people feel more relaxed.

Tip 4: Add Tartan

Tartan is one of those winter patterns that people all over the world love. It is a great pattern, and is associated with winter, December, and Christmas. You could buy tartan lamp shades, tartan blankets, tartan jackets, and dozens of other tartan things. If you are more of a DIY type of person, there are dozens of different tartan patterned fabrics you can buy and then cut into/sew into whatever item you want.

Some typical tartan things people buy for winter are tartan pillows (or pillow cases), tartan lamp shades, tartan blankets, and tartan ribbons/bows. These can be placed all over the place, and are an easy way to spread the winter feeling.

Tip 5: Add Some Fire

If you have a fireplace, consider lighting it up when guests come over. If you don’t, you could have candles lit up across your house, or find other ways to incorporate fire in your house. During the cold of winter, few things are as cozy as snuggling up to a warm fire. If you don’t have a fire place inside, but have room to start a fire outside (and are allowed to by various laws and your HOA), then consider starting one when guests come outside. This is also a great way to start a conversation, or to sit around a fire telling stories.

If you don’t like the smoke of fires and the smell of candles, you can also put up pre-recorded fireplaces on your TV screen. These are offered through all sorts of TV services, such as Netflix or Hulu. They are a great way to have all of the fun of looking at and hearing a fire, without all of the hassle of having to put it out or start one.
